Rs 1.55 crore seized from Bihar official's son's locker

PATNA: The Special Vigilance Wing (SVW) of Bihar has recovered Rs 1.55 crore from a bank locker of the son of state Rajbhasha director D N Choudhary, against whom a disproportionate asset case had been registered last month.
"We opened the locker at Saraiyaganj branch of the Central Bank of India in Muzaffarpur in the presence of Choudhary's family member and found Rs 1,54,99,000 yesterday", Inspector General (SVU) A K Upadhyay said.
Sixteen fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 were also seized from the locker, the IG said.
"We have asked the Muzaffarpur police to conduct an inquiry into the recovery of counterfeit currency notes from the bank locker", he added.
Upadhyay said the locker was allotted to Choudhary's son Dipanshi alias Deepak and his wife Annu Kumari.
The SVW had raided the residential premises of Choudhary at Muzaffarpur and Patna and seized papers relating to his properties worth over Rs one crore on April 27 last.
The operation followed registration of a disproportionate asset case against the Rajbhasha Director charging him with accumulating wealth over Rs 55 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The sleuths had seized registration deeds of four plots in the town, besides papers relating to his having a three acre plot at Bochaha in Muzaffarpur district.
Choudhary's flat in posh Boring Road locality in Patna was also searched and it was discovered that his family had two bank lockers, the keys of which were later traced, official sources said.
