Amitabh, Shatru to Attend Bhojpuri Festival in Patna?

April 1, 2007
People of Patna may be able to see the superstar Amitabh Bachchan on April 22 when the two-day international Bhojpuri jamboree opens in the state capital to honor eminent Bhojpuri personalities and to promote Bhojpuri culture, Mithilesh Tiwari, the general secretary of the organizing committee said in Patna on Sunday.Other big names in the Hindi and Bhojpuri worlds from Bihar including Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman Manoj Bajpayee, Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan and several other stars from Bihar are also expected to participate, he said.Noted singers like Sharda Sinha and Kalpana Devi would also grace the occasion, Tiwari said.PatnaDaily.Com, however, was not able to verify if all the stars have given their acceptance nods to attend the fĂȘte.Following a meeting of the Bihar officials at the Mauritius Embassy in New Delhi on Sunday, Mauritius high commissioners to India Mukheshwar Chunni confirmed his availability for the occasion that is being jointly organized by the Bhojpuri Vishwa and 'Lokras', a cultural organization from Uttar Pradesh.Giving details of the program, Tiwari said the mahotsav will be held at Gandhi Maidan on April 22 and 23 and feature a 'kavi sammelan' featuring well-known Bhojpuri poets, discussions and seminars, and cultural programs highlighting Bhojpuri songs, dances and skits.Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate the event while Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi would be the chief guest, Tiwari said.Bhojpuri continues to gain widespread acceptance thanks to a concerted effort by the state government, the Bhojpuri-speaking people all over the globe, and mega stars like Bachchan and Dilip Kumar who have used Bhojpuri, albeit with a little variation, in their past films.Recently in an interview, Dilip Kumar's wife and former Hindi film sweetheart Saira Banu had praised the Bhojpuri film industry and her keen interest in it saying Bhojpuri films still represent the Indian value and culture that are sorely lacking in the mainstream films churned out by the so-called Bollywood.
