Member of Indian parliament assassinated

Indian Member of Parliament Sunil Mahato and four others were shot to death by unknown armed attackers at a sports function held at Ghatshila in the central Indian state of Jharkhand late Sunday evening, according to Sahar TV.
Mahato who was under heavy security of his bodyguards was watching a football match when attackers shot him on the pretext of putting a garland around his neck.
Mahato is a member of parliament from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party in Jharkhand. The party is a coalition partner in the United Progressive Alliance government at the center.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has convened an emergency meeting to discuss the situation after the assassination.
So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
