Inter Exams Marred by Violence

Patna: Feb. 12, 2007
Despite strong security arrangement at all exam centers in Bihar, Intermediate examinees in Madhepura, Biharsharif, and Chhapra went on a rampage ravaging the test centers after several students failed to receive their admit cards forcing the administration to resort to lathi charge and firing that left many injured. In Madhepura, angry students set the exam center on fire and burnt the test papers after they were denied entry into the building in the absence of admit cards that they claimed they never received thanks to an inept administration. The mob also set a Marshal Jeep owned by the college principal and a motorcycle on fire. The police then resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd and when that did not succeed, they opened fire in the air. At least half a dozen students were arrested though they were later released on their own cognizance.Realizing the gravity of the situation, the District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar ordered scrapping of the exam in Madhepura promising to hold it at a later date after all eligible students had received their admit cards. In Biharsharif also, the examinees desecrated the test center in the lack of admit cards. Over a dozen students were taken into custody, officials said.In Chhapra, however, the cause of trouble was not the admit card, rather many examinees were denied question papers due to gross mismanagement on the part of colleges and universities.Meanwhile, more than 150 candidates were expelled in Saharsa, Ara, Jehanabad, Arwal, Katihar, and Aurangabad for resorting to unfair means.
