Crime graph increased during NDA regime in the state: RJD

Patna, Jan 13:
Terming the Bihar government's claim that the crime graph in the state has gone down significantly as a "farce", Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday alleged that the crime graph has, instead, increased during the three years of 'sushashan' (good governance).
"This (crime graph presented by the state's DGP) is false", Shyam Rajak and Shakeel Ahmed Khan, RJD general secretary and spokesman told reporters in Patna on Tuesday.
Presenting statistics from the National Crime Record Bureau, contrary to the claims of the Nitish Kumar government that crime had gone down during its rule, the truth was otherwise.
Comparing the crime record with the figures during the RJD government, they said that the total number of cognisable offence had increased from 115216 in 2004 to 119993 in 2008. Similarly, the total number of criminals held in 2004 was 220666 whereas the same number went down to 141451 in 2007.

The crime against the children also rose during NDA's regime, they said and added that altogether six children were killed and four cases of rape with minor were found in 2004.
In contrast, 2007 witnessed increase in the figure as the cases of child killing went to 41 and rape with minor to 37. Total of number of rape cases were 1390 in 2004 which rose to 1555 in 2007.
Similarly, dowry cases have also gone up to 1172 in 2007 from 1029 in 2004, the RJD leaders said claiming that during RJD rule only seven districts were affected by naxal menace which spread to 31 districts during the current dispensation. Ridiculing Nitish Kumar's Vikas Yatra, they said Kumar would be leading a royal life in the tent with all fanfare at the cost of tax-payer's money.
