Six arrested in three districts for bribery

BEGUSARAI/ CHHAPRA/ MUZAFFARPUR: A team of the state vigilance bureau led by its DSP, Maharaja Kanishka Kumar, on Friday caught red-handed the head clerk of Begusarai circle office, Suman Kumar Yadav, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
The vigilance team had earlier laid the trap on the information provided by one, Chandan Kumar Yadav, and arrested the head clerk from his Pokharia residence.
Chandan had informed the vigilance bureau about the head clerk demanding the said amount for settling a land deed measuring about nine katthas in his name.
Meanwhile, vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested four persons in Saran district for accepting bribe.
The team of vigilance bureau arrested Surendra Kumar, SI, posted as officer in-charge of Doriganj police station on Friday morning for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 for forwarding an application for passport, said Mithilesh Kumar, DSP (HQ). While going to Chhapra, the district headquarters, the sleuths conducted raid in the treasury office and arrested three persons including head clerk Baij Nath Prasad, assistant Abrar Ahmed and a peon for accepting bribe for the payment of pension to retired teachers.
Confirming the incident, Saran DM Prabhat Kumar Sah said that further action would be taken after receipt of the report. In the meantime, several persons who have applied for passport have complained of harassment at the police stations concerned where they went for police verification.
Meanwhile, in Muzaffarpur, an employee working in the revenue wing of Marwan block, Devendra Chaudhary, was arrested by vigilance bureau sleuths led by local vigilance inspector, Ambrish Kumar on Friday. Chaudhary was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 2,100 from one, Munna for mutation of his land (seven katthas). Chaudhary had demanded the said amount at the rate of Rs 300 per kattha. The complainant informed the vigilance bureau about the demand and the vigilance sleuths laid a trap to catch Chaudhary while taking the bribe.
