Sub-inspector caught taking bribe

PATNA: Vigilance Investigation Bureau sleuths met with resistance on Saturday night when they caught red-handed sub-inspector (SI) and officer-in-charge of Bardaha police station in Araria district Murari Prasad Choudhary and his two constables taking Rs 23,000 as bribe from the complainant Rajendra Kumar Choudhary alias Raju Choudhary at the latter's residence.
The SI attacked the sleuths with his revolver. The vigilance officials managed to grab the revolver from him by twisting his arm and making the revolver fall from his hand.
But, in the process, the revolver went off and the bullet hit the right knee of Murari and injured him. The vigilance officials claimed that he also tried to swallow the notes recovered from him and when he was prevented by the vigilance team he tried to destroy the evidence by tearing off the notes. Several notes got torn in the process. An assistant police inspector and another constable were injured in this scuffle, said bureau ADG Neelmani.
Bureau sources said Raju had lodged a written complaint alleging that the SI had threatened to make him the main accused in a case lodged with Sikti police station related to kidnapping for marriage if he failed to pay Rs 25,000 to him (SI). The complainant said he was not related to the case and the girl, who had eloped, had not mentioned his name (Raju) in her statement.
