Bihar Engineers Threaten to Go on Indefinite Strike

Engineers under the banner of Bihar Engineers' Service Association (BESA) in Patna on Thursday staged a day-long dharna to protest against what they described as an 'out-of-control' bureaucracy while threatening to go on an indefinite strike starting October 25.Association general secretary Rajeshwar Mishra, in his address, said the engineers in Bihar were an oppressed lot and their voices were not being heard by the state government. "No amount of persuasion would force us to withdraw our strike which will continue till all of our demands are met unconditionally," Mishra admonished. While it was not very clear what the speakers were complaining about, they did demand withdrawal of legal cases against some of the engineers and cancellation of disparaging reports against some of their comrades prepared by District Magistrates.Meanwhile, other engineers' associations in Bihar including Indian Engineers' Federation, Bihar Health Services Association, Power Engineers' Service Association, and Bihar State Gazetted Officiers' Association, among others, have extended their support to the BESA stir.
