'One-man, one-post' policy in PU

30 Apr, 2007
PATNA: Consequent upon the chancellor’s directive, Patna University (PU) is likely to adopt “one man, one post” policy soon. The university has sought information from the heads of departments and principals of colleges in this regard. According to a recent PU notification, all the heads and principals have been directed to furnish the list of teachers occupying more than one post. Many teachers of PU have been working simultaneously on more than one post for the past several years. A similar exercise for implementing “one man, one post” policy was undertaken in the past when Rama Jois was the chancellor of the universities, but it could not materialise. But, this time, PU appears to be quite serious on this issue. Fair examination: Since the PU authorities have made elaborate arrangements to conduct its ongoing undergraduate and post-graduate examinations in quite a fair manner, more than 200 examinees have already been expelled for adopting unfair means. About 125 students have been expelled from Patna College centre alone. And, in the process, the state exchequer has got enriched by over Rs four lakh. Each expelled examinee is handed over to the magistrate and police on duty at the examination centre and is released from the police station only on payment of a fine of Rs 2,000. Quite recently, at Patna Law College centre, a BEd student of Patna Training College was caught impersonating a Degree Part II examinee. He was immediately sent to jail and there is possibility of his admission to the BEd course being cancelled. Repair of hostels: PU has decided to get all its dilapidated hostels repaired during the next two months so that students admitted to the new batches might be accommodated in the renovated buildings. Students residing in different hostels (32 in number) have already been directed to vacate their rooms as soon as their examinations are over. And, once the hostels are vacant, the repair work would be undertaken on war footing. PU has re-organised its works department by engaging some retired engineers.
