PATNA: JD (U),
a partner of the NDA, has thrown its weight behind President APJ Abdul Kalam and favoured a second term for him in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, on his return from Delhi on Tuesday, said Kalam did a commendable job and inspired the country's young generation. "Kalam is the fittest person to retain the highest office for he, apart from being an acclaimed scientist, ignited a ray of hope for the people and also guided how to govern and work for the welfare of public," Nitish said. Asked what will be his stand if UPA fields another candidate, Nitish said the NDA will take a decision at appropriate time. He also claimed UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and he proposed Kalam's candidature four years ago. Kalam showed keen interest in Bihar; visited the state at least four times; addressed the joint session of Bihar legislature and drew up a roadmap for the development of the state.
