Holi rush spills on to rail route

Jamshedpur, March 2:

Trains which go to New Delhi via Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and other northern states witnessed an all-time high rush today due to the approaching Holi festival.
A few major trains, especially the Tata Chhapra Express (8181), Tata Danapur Express (8183), Puri-New Delhi-Purushottam Superfast (2801) and other long-distance trains, registered a long waiting list as hundreds of passengers tried to reach their homes in the neighbouring states.
Hundreds of passengers including women and children were seen standing at the Tatanagar railway station as the general bogies of trains were packed with passengers. Most passengers, either employed with Tata Steel, Tata Motors or running businesses in the steel city, claimed that they were stranded as the Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway had failed to provide extra coaches to trains due to non-availability of bogies.
Pramanand Sharma, who is travelling on the Tata Danapur Express said: “I came here to meet my father-in-law. I have no choice but to board the train without a confirmed ticket in order to celebrate the festival with my family.”
Vinod Kumar, working with Tata Motors, said that the railways should provide extra coaches during the festival time: “The people like to visit their homes during the festival. It is the duty of the railways to make temporary arrangements.”
A senior railway official of Charkradharpur division, on condition of anonymity, said: “We do not have sufficient extra coaches. We have demanded a few extra coaches from the SER. But the management is yet to supply it.”
Senior divisional commercial manager, Chakradharpur, J.S. Bindra was not available for comment.
