PATNA: The state government has dissolved the Bihar Inter-University Board in order to grant complete autonomy to the state universities on the pattern of Central universities.
The board had been set up to monitor development of universities and regulate teaching and research in institutions of higher education in the state. Set up during the Emergency in 1975 by then CM Jagannath Mishra, the board was also empowered to suggest ways for improving academic standards, implement various examination reform measures and development schemes of universities and to ensure uniform regulations and statutes for all the universities. But it was found that the board had miserably failed to preform the tasks assigned to it. The Administrative Reforms Commission had also recommended dissolution of the board. The services of the employees of the board would be accommodated as per provisions of the Bihar State Agricultural Marketing Board (Dissolution) Bill, 2006.
