Bihar assembly adopts censure motion against Raj Thakerey

Patna, March 13 :
Bihar's legislators unanimously adopted a censure motion against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for his 'anti-Bihari' remarks last week that created huge public outcry and widespread protests in the state.Taking dominant sentiments of millions of people of Bihar, hurt by Thackeray's remarks, the state legislative council Tuesday unanimously adopted a censure motion against the Navnirman Sena leader.The censure motion against Thackeray was brought following a demand made by Communist Party of India legislator Kedar Pandey during the zero hour for an adjournment motion to discuss the 'anti-Bihari' remarks of Thackeray, estranged nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.The chairman of the legislative council Arun Kumar turned down demand of Pandey and suggested to bring a censure motion against Thackeray's remarks. "A censure motion was unanimously adopted by the House," said Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Tarakant Jha, who was instrumental in drafting the motion that was signed by the members.Thackerey's remarks against Biharis in Mumbai sparked wide spread protest across state and outside by people of Bihari origin. People, political parties, social groups and students staged protest march, burned Thackerey's effigies and demanded action against him.The censure motion said that Biharis had contributed a lot to the socio-economic development of Mumbai and, under the constitution, they were free to earn their livelihood anywhere in India."Raj Thackeray's statement is aimed at breaking the emotional and communal harmony of the country and hence the House unanimously condemns it," the motion said.
