

Patna: Feb. 25, 2007Several prominent Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) alumnus, on Sunday, gathered at the college premises to celebrate the institute's 82nd anniversary and honor some of its renowned physicians who went on to make names for themselves and for the college that prepared them for a luminous career.State Health Minister Chandramohan Rai inaugurated the ceremony. Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey was also present at the occasion. Welcoming the class of 1946 was the current class of 2007.Among others, gracing the occasion was the oldest surviving student of the premier medical college of Bihar Dr. M. P. Sinha who also once served as the head of the department of Physiology at the PMCH.Doctors graduating as far back as in 1946 including Dr. W. G. Rama Rao, Dr. Mahanand Jha, Dr. Mahavir Chand, and Dr. Gopal Prasad Sinha, walking down the memory lane reminisced the good old days telling each other anecdotes and incidents they remembered.College officials also awarded several of its alumnus awards for their distinguished services in various medical fields.Noted surgeon Dr. Phani Bhushan Prasad was given the lifetime achievement award while Dr. Ajay Kumar, the national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr. Vijay Prakash and Dr. Rajeshwar Thakur were given special awards.Gold medals were also awarded to Snehashree, Richa Singh, Priya Verma, Shambhavi, Manas Ranjan, Priha Smriti, Varsha Kumari, Poonam Singh, Rishi Raj, Anshuman, Vimalendu Kumar, and Mohd. Salahuddin Siddiqui for topping in their areas of choice.Meanwhile, at Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, the students and teachers were celebrating the third annual alumni meet in the presence of Patna University Vice Chancellor Y. C. Simadri and the college's first principal Dr. P. N. Sharma, among others.Nine current students were awarded cash awards of Rs. 4, 000 each by the Taxila Educational Society and a cultural show was presented by the students.
