Nitish Flags off "Race for Development of Bihar"

Nearly eight thousands men and women of all ages, including a number of state ministers, on Sunday, took part in what was dubbed as 'Race for Development of Bihar' organized by the Bihar Industries Association and flagged off by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.The race between Raj Bhawan and Gandhi Maidan took off at around 8:00 am after the Chief Minister, who walked from his official residence to the Raj Bhawan, flagged off the race after releasing gas-filled balloons and wishing everyone good luck.With adrenaline pumping up, young boys and girl, men and women, even handicapped children, took off to reach the end mark where they were greeted by a host of prominent industrialists and leaders.On the way, the participants were provided cold water and ice creams as thousands of onlookers cheered them up all the way to Gandhi Maidan.Kumar, before flagging off the race, once again acknowledged people's faith in him. "I will not let you down, that's my promise to you. The state has achieved remarkable progress in less than 15 months. People are not living under constant terror as was the case before and this was one of the first and foremost prerequisite for a better, developed Bihar," the Chief Minister said."If we continue to do what we are doing right now, by 2015, Bihar will be among the developed states," he said adding Bihar could not afford to ignore any section of the society.Though Kumar himself did not participate in the race, several of his ministers including the Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Human Resources Minister Brishin Patel, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Anil Kumar, BJP leaders Arun Kumar Sinha, Nitin Navin, and Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha ran all the way from start to finish.Winners of the race were divided into six categories. In the armed forces category, the first and second place were given to Navin Kashyam and John Mink respectively. In the men's group, the first place went to Akaash Prakash while second place was awarded to Shashank Kumar. In the women's division Anjali and Priyanka were given the first and second place respectively.In the junior group, Pallavai and Vinita while in the boys group, Vipul Ranjan and Rajiv Kumar were given the first and second place respectively.The three boys in the wheelchair, Sunil Kumar, Gandhi Khan, and Mukesh Kumar were awarded special prizes.
