Gavai takes Bihar opposition legislators to task

Patna, Feb 23: Bihar Governor R S Gavai upbraided the legislators of the opposition RJD-Congress combine who tried to interrupt his address to the joint sitting of the two Houses of the legislature which met for the Budget session Friday. "You know I am the Governor and at this stage I am also discharging the role of a Speaker of the House addressing the joint sitting. It is a pious event of Parliamentary democracy. You can't interrupt me till I conclude the address," a visibly annoyed Gavai told the members who were demanding resignation of the NDA government for what they allege failures on all fronts. As soon as Gavai set in motion his address, slogan-shouting legislators of the RJD and Congress held aloft placards and charged the NDA with reneging on the promises made by it while seeking votes. "The anti-poor, anti-Dalit and anti-women government should go," they demanded. Opposition leader in the Assembly Rabri Devi meanwhile suggested to the Governor not to read out the texts of his address prepared by the state government, claiming "the facts mentioned therein are wrong." RJD deputy leader in the House Shakeel Ahmed and senior party MLA Shyam Rajak too voiced opposition to the text prepared for the Governor's address, saying it was "nothing but a plethora of empty promises".
