4 test tube babies born on October 2

5 Oct 2007
PATNA: Four test tube babies were born to four couples here on October 2. These babies were fertilised by a team of doctors at Srijan-Centre for Assisted Human Reproduction headed by Dr Himanshu Roy and delivered at Shivam Hospital and Research Institute Private Limited in the presence of noted gynaecologist Dr Shanti Roy and her team. In-Vitrio Fertilisation (IVF) technique was initially used for the treatment of those infertile women whose fallopian tubes were damaged, became dysfunctional or were blocked. Now the process is used on different types of patients, even on those with unexplained infertility, said Dr Himanshu Roy. The awareness about IVF among people has grown remarkably during last few years. "After the delivery of the first test tube baby of Bihar, Karishma, who was delivered in 2003, we have successfully helped in the birth of about 50 such babies at our clinic. The cost of the process is also lesser than that done in other cities," said Dr Roy.
