The Naxals looted an SLR, two carbines and two pistols from both the slain and injured RPF men and detrained at Rajla Halt after pulling the alarm chain, sources said. Chief public relations officer (CPRO) of the Eastern Railway S Mazumdar said that the Maoists numbering around 100, including some women cadre, had boarded the train as bona fide passengers at Ghorpara railway station in Jamui district at 8.17 am. When the train left the Narganjo railway station at 8.25 am, the women cadre of the Maoists caught the RPF's escort party off guard and threw chilli powder into their eyes right before the shocked passengers, he added. The victims have been identified as constables A Bag and B Ghosh. Soon after playing the trick, the Naxals opened indiscriminate firing, killing two and injuring five others, Mazumdar said. The ill-fated train was then brought to the Jhajha railway station and an SOS was subsequently sent to the control rooms at Danapur and Asansol for necessary action, the sources said. The CPRO said that the railways have taken the matter seriously and stepped up security measures on the Jasidih-Jhajha section of the Eastern Railway. The railways have drafted a strong contingent of 80 to 100RPF personnel to patrol tracks as well as provide escort duty in each passenger train passing through the trouble-torn areas of the Asansol division, he added. Meanwhile, the director general of the RPF has sounded a red alert all over the country; the sources said and added that the railway security personnel have been asked to remain vigilant while on escort duty, particularly in the Naxal-affected areas.
