MOTIHARI: Following intelligence reports about the increasing activities of CPI(Maoists) and ISI, a red alert has been sounded on the Indo-Nepal border. This follows a three-day secret meeting of CPI(Maoists) and Jan Shakti Party (ultra Leftist) held in Motihari town recently in which 40 Red Army activists including Nepalese Maoists took part. Intelligence report indicate Maoists are preparing for a major offensive in East and West Champaran areas. They have already launched a poster campaign in rural areas of Patahi and Madhuban in East Champaran and Sheohar to create fear pshychosis among the rural masses. Several handwritten posters were found pasted on the walls of villages under Pakaridayal subdivision of East Champaran. According to intelligence sources, 40,000 activists of Maoists from Nepal, Jharkhand, Orrisa and Andhra Pradesh have taken shelter in North Bihar district bordering Nepal with sophisticated arms. On the direction of East Champaran SP Sunil Kumar Jha, the SSB, CRPF and police jointly rehearsed a mock encounter with extremists at Dhaka on April 18 to tackle any sudden attack by them on government establishments. An emergency message was circulated to all the police stations of Sikrahna and Pakaridayal subdivision DSPs, CRPF and SSB camps to rush to Dhaka immediately for help. All the police officials along with SSB commandant and assistant commandent CRPF rushed to Dhaka with arms. The police force reached Dhaka police station within 30 minutes from the remote areas. SP Jha expressed satifaction over the alertness of force. There was panic for some time in areas adjoining Dhaka, but after some time people realised that it was a mock exercise. At their secret meeting in Motihari, the extremists took several major decisions to take actions against the alleged enemies of the society living in towns. However, the local intelligence agencies and police do not have any information about the meeting. An SSB Inspector of Haraiya camp on Indo Nepal border conceded that activities of Maoists had increased on border areas.
