4 Apr, 2007
PATNA: The city police have cracked a case of kidnapping in which the victim's maternal uncle was the mastermind. The involvement of the uncle in the kidnapping came to light when an abducted intermediate student, Ranjit Kumar, was rescued from a house at Sakri Gali near Gur Ki Mandi under the Alamganj police station on Tuesday. Ranjit's maternal uncle Sujit Kumar and cousin Gautam Kumar along with a few others have been taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping. Ranjit, son of one Singar Singh of Samastipur, was staying near Kendriya Vidyalaya under the Patrkarnagar police station as he had joined a coaching institute in the city to prepare for his exams. A few days ago he was kidnapped by Sujit's associates and taken to an unknown place. In order to confuse Ranjit's family members, Sujit even went to the Kankerbagh police station to lodge an FIR. And, when the family began to receive ransom calls, Sujit took Ranjit's father into confidence saying that will negotiate with the kidnappers. Police said that when it came to their knowledge that the kidnappers demanded Rs 20 lakh and that Sijit was negotiating with the kidnappers, telephone calls between Sujit and the kidnappers were closely monitored. Ultimately, this helped in cracking the case and the entire gang comprising including Suraj Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Veena Devi apart from Sujit and Gautam was busted just when the ransom payment deal was about to be struck. Murdered: Anil Kumar, a notorious criminal, was gunned down by rival gang members at J Sector of People's Cooperative Colony under the Kankerbagh police station on Tuesday. Police said Anil had criminal antecedents as he was involved in the killing of one Uday Pehalwan for which he was jailed. Drugs seized: Unlicensed drug worth over Rs one lakh was seized by officials of Controller of Drugs from the premises of Replical Pharma Pvt Limited located in People's cooperative Colony on Tuesday afternoon. While the owner of the firm, Sanjay Kumar, managed to escape, his servant Manoj Kumar has been arrested.
