Airport-city shuttle bus service from April 16

PATNA: The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has decided to introduce daily airport-city shuttle bus service from next week. The bus will pick up air passengers from major city points and drop them at the airport during timings of the flight. Similarly, it will pick up passengers at the airport for dropping them at major city points. It will charge Rs 50 per passenger for the service. The airport bus will be operational from April 16. The first bus will start from Hotel Kautilya Vihara at Beer Chand Patel Marg at 5.55 am and pass through the main points including at R-Block, Gandhi Maidan near Hotel Maurya, I-T roundabout, railway station, Bailey Road near Pant Bhavan and before reaching the airport.Similarly, it will operate on the same route from 1 pm to 3 pm and from 7 pm to 10 pm. Any passenger can buy a pre-paid ticket for the 18-seater bus at the BSTDC counter at Patna airport. The rate and timings would be displayed at the BSTDC counter at the airport. "If the response is encouraging, we will extend the routes and increase the services of the shuttle buses," said newly-appointed BSTDC chairman-cum-managing director Rajesh Bhushan. The service will not only help those passenger who do not have any vehicle at his or her disposal but would also put a complete check on the private taxi operators at the airport who charge exorbitant rates from the hapless air passengers, said an official. The BSTDC will also revive the air taxi facilities for the passengers at the airport soon. "We are working out a proposal with private operators who can lend their vehicles to the corporation to ferry passengers from the airport to various destinations. We have already finalised a rate for different vehicles like AC or non-AC for various city destinations," said an official. Currently the BSTDC does not have sufficient number of vehicles at its disposal to ferry passengers from the airport. Moreover, tourists will also soon have an opportunity to travel in Volvo or Tata glow bus, super-quality AC luxury coachesfor places like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bodhgaya and Varanasi. BSTDC has also invited expression of interest from experienced and financially sound firms for supplying, maintaining and operating Volvo B7R bus /Tata Glow bus (good quality AC super luxury coaches) on specified routes of BSTDC for a period of two years.
