Minister offered role in Bhojpuri film

20 Mar, 2007
PATNA: After RJD supremo and railway minister Lalu Prasad, it is the turn of state art, culture and youth affairs minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal to prove his mettle in theatrical skills. While Lalu had performed in Hindi movie "Padmashri Lalu Prasad Yadav", Sigriwal has been offered a 10-minute role in a Bhojpuri film, "Aa Ja Re Suganwa, being produced by Jalsa Motion Pictures. Though the minister was initially hesitant about accepting the role, he said he would give his nod after going through the script. He said that he would extend full cooperation to the film if it is, in any way, associated with the development of the state. Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion of film's announcement on Monday, the minister urged film-makers to produce decent Bhojpuri films in consonance with the state's rich cultural heritage. Sigriwal was highly critical of the increasing trend of vulgarity in Bhojpuri films and songs these days. He said that the state government has imposed a blanket ban on vulgar songs, particularly Bhojpuri ones, as they are in bad taste. The minister asked the directors and producers of Bhojpuri films to ensure that they did not hurt the dignity and pride of the Bhojpuri-speaking people. He also asked them to shoot their movies in Bhojpuri-speaking regions as such a measure would generate employment at the local level. Replying to a question that current Bhojpuri films are being dominated by non-Bhojpuri-speaking artists, Sigriwal said that the local talent should be encouraged.
