Bihar Assembly: Censure motion withdrawn

Friday, 16 March 2007
The Opposition did not take part in the proceedings in the Bihar Assembly even after the censure motion adopted by the government was withdrawn after the house was installed by the opposition members. The Opposition demanded apology from the government on the issue. The channel sources further added that the Opposition leaders maintained that they won't take part in the proceedings of the house unless the apology is tendered. The Bihar Assembly has been installed for the last five days. The drama began when the opposition leaders, while demanding from the chairperson of the state Legislative Assembly an arrest order for those six people who were named in an FIR following the blowing up of the house of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator from Atri constituency in Gaya district Kunti Devi, huddled in well, stood on tables, hurled chair on the reporters' desk and shouted anti-government slogans while calling Chowdhary a coward. This prompted adoption of the censure motion on Monday. On January 18, Naxalites blew up Kunti Devi's house in Mahua Bagicha in Gaya district leaving behind Maoist literature and a note calling the MLA's husband Rajendra Yadav a criminal and a murderer.Kunti Devi's son then lodged an FIR against six men who are yet to be arrested.
