All Bihar projects promised would go on stream soon: Lalu

Patna, March 1, 2007Fresh from a satisfying presentation of railway budget in Parliament on Monday, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said on Thursday that all Bihar projects promised in the railway budget would go on stream very soon.
"We have put Bihar on the railway map by announcing major projects including new factories like diesel locomotive plant at Marhaura, electric locomotive plant at Madhepura and wagon manufacturing unit at Dalmiyanagar," Lalu said, adding that these factories would not only develop the region but also generate lakhs of employment. He spelt out that since independence Bihar had been neglected but RJD being a partner in the UPA government had done justice with the state.
Again, taking a potshot at his critics who dubbed the railway budget as populist, Lalu said he would continue to show his magical ability to give relief to passengers in the next budget too. "Agar yeh budget jadu tha toh aanewale saal mein pura indrajaal ka khel hoga (If I have created magic this year, I would present a full magic show in the budget next year)," said Lalu while address a press conference.
There were some lighter moments too when Lalu, showing his usual wit, reasoned out why he had announced manufacturing new design coaches having a capacity of 84 berths. "The existing coaches look like fat bodies, which is not good for railways and even health of persons. So, we thought of designing slim coaches which would have more space and help passengers to exercise too," said the railway minister, evoking peels of laughter from the media men.
He also reasoned out that "coaches would have aluminum bodies', which would less heavy and help trains to move faster. "Every year 2500 coaches would be rolled out," he said to replace the existing fleet of coaches.
Referring to other projects for Bihar, Lalu said that an allocation of Rs 1251 crore had allocated for Bihar in this budget in which many old and new projects would be taken up including the road over bridge over Ganga in Munger and Patna. "It's fully being funded by the railways. The state government had promised of giving funds for the ROB between Digha and Sonepur but backed out," Lalu asserted to assail the Niish Kumar government. Another emphasis point of Lalu was railways' plan to set up wagon manufacturing unit at the Rohtas industries complex in Dalmiyanagar, as he said 'the wagon unit would once again revive the sick industrial hub'. He also stressed that the Nabinagar thermal power plant, once operational, would help smooth supply of power to railways. He also said funds had been allotted for laying of tracks connecting his native village Phulwaria. "What's wrong in it," he quipped.
