CM opens Buddha Mahotsava

25 Feb, 2007
MOTIHARI: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the three-day Buddha Mahotsava at Kesaria, near the world's tallest Buddha Stupa, on Saturday. The CM said the excavation and exploration of the ancient Buddha Stupa are being done by the ASI. The state government has also chalked out a plan to connect Kesaria with pucca road to attract domestic and foreign tourists. This site would be developed to make it an ideal tourist spot, like Rajgir and Bodh Gaya. According to historical records, Lord Buddha had stayed at Kesaria and handed over his begging bowl to the people of Vaishali during his last journey to Kushinagar. So, Kesaria has great importance in history, the CM said. He said Lord Buddha always remained in search of truth and never bowed down before the evils of society. He was fearless and spread the message of love and compassion. His messages should be followed, Nitish said. He announced that a road bridge at Sattarghat on Gandak river would be constructed soon and a powergrid station would be built at Kesaria. Without naming his opponents, Nitish told people: "Our government has done a lot development work during its 15-month rule. Kindly remember what the previous government had done during its 15-year rule. He urged women to take pledge to send their sons and daughters to school. "Otherwise, I will direct the police to cooperate in this work,"he "warned"them. State art, culture and youth affairs minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal said state government would bear the cost of organising the Mahotsava at Kesaria every year.
