Patna, Feb. 27 (PTI): Bihar Assembly was today adjourned amid noisy scenes with the opposition creating an uproar over alleged "slipshod" implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.
The opposition MLAs, enraged over the rejection of the notices of adjournment motion by LJP's Maheshwar Singh and CPI-ML's Ram Naresh Ram and others, stormed the well during Zero Hour stalling the proceedings.
Trouble erupted soon after Zero Hour began with Singh and Ram wanting to know the fate of their notices.
As Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary informed them that the notices had been rejected as they were not found to be in order, angry MLAs of the two parties trooped into the well and began arguing with the chair.
They were soon joined in the well by RJD and Congress members, several of whom held placards accusing the Bihar government of not making available job cards to the rural poor to enable them reap the benefits from the scheme.
"Implement the rural employment guarantee programme," they shouted as some members began banging the official reporters' tables.
Repeated efforts by the Speaker to persuade the agitated members to return to their seats cut no ice with them.
As the din persisted, the Speaker adjourned the House for lunch 50 minutes ahead of schedule.
