Anti-Valentine's Day Rally in Patna

Patna: Feb. 13, 2007
While young boys and girls were lining up at all greeting card shops in Patna to celebrate Valentine's Day, an anti-Valentine's Day front, on Tuesday, took out a rally demanding a ban on the festival saying such western imports were detrimental to the Indian culture and traditions. The rally started at Congress Maidan and ended up at Kadam Kuan crossing where the protestors burnt St. Valentine's effigy. The protestors also went to many shops and urged them not to sell Valentine's Day cards while also appealing to the youths not to celebrate Valentine's Day saying it promoted decline in the Indian culture."Do the western countries observe Ram Navami or Dussehra as we observe here in India? So why do we have to emulate western culture that has nothing to do with Hinduism or Islam?" they asked.
